Emergency Roof Repairs
Roof Repair recently carried out by Easy Way Roofing
A roof problem rarely happens at a convenient time. Heavy rain can suddenly expose a leak you didn’t know was there, strong winds can dislodge slates or tiles, and damage around a chimney or flashing can allow water into a property surprisingly quickly.
If you’ve suddenly discovered water coming through your roof, the most important thing is to protect the inside of your property, stay safe and have the cause of the problem properly assessed.
At Easy Way Roofing, we carry out emergency roof repairs across Central Scotland, including Glasgow, Edinburgh, Stirling, Falkirk, Alloa and surrounding areas.
What Counts as an Emergency Roof Repair?
Not every roofing problem is an emergency. A damaged tile that isn’t allowing water into the property may be able to wait for a normal roof repair. Other problems need attention much more quickly. You should consider contacting a roofer urgently if you have:
- Water actively entering your property
- Storm damage to the roof
- Missing or displaced slates or tiles
- Damage that has left part of the roof exposed
- Water entering around a chimney
- Damaged or failed leadwork causing a significant leak
- A sudden leak in a flat roof
- Roofing materials that have become loose and could present a safety risk
If you’re unsure how serious the problem is, you don’t need to diagnose it yourself. Explain what you’ve noticed and we can advise on the next step.
What Should You Do if Your Roof Suddenly Starts Leaking?
The first priority should be dealing with the water inside the property safely. Where possible, move furniture and belongings away from the affected area and use a container to catch dripping water. If water is entering close to electrical fittings, sockets or wiring, don’t take unnecessary risks. Keep away from the affected area and seek appropriate assistance.
Most importantly, don’t climb onto a wet or storm-damaged roof yourself. Even a roof that normally appears safe can become extremely hazardous in poor weather.
Then Find the Cause of the Leak
One of the difficulties with a leaking roof is that the source isn’t necessarily directly above the damp patch you can see. Water can enter through one part of the roof and travel along timbers or other parts of the structure before appearing internally somewhere else.
Common causes can include damaged slates or tiles, failed flashing, chimney defects and deterioration of the roof covering. That’s why finding the source of the problem is an important part of any roof repair.

Can an Emergency Roof Leak Be Repaired?
Often, yes. A sudden leak doesn’t automatically mean that you need a completely new roof. If the rest of the roof remains in reasonable condition, it may be possible to repair the affected area — for example, by replacing damaged or missing slates or tiles or repairing defective leadwork.
The appropriate repair will depend on what has caused the leak and the overall condition of the roof. If we find that the problem is more widespread, we’ll explain what we’ve found and what your options are rather than automatically recommending a full replacement.
Storm Damage to Your Roof
High winds and severe weather can expose weaknesses that weren’t previously obvious. Slates and tiles can become loose or displaced, while existing problems around chimneys, ridges and leadwork can worsen during periods of heavy rain and wind. Sometimes the first indication of storm damage is a visible missing slate or tile. In other cases, it’s water appearing inside the property.
If you suspect storm damage, having the roof inspected can establish whether the problem is isolated or whether other areas have also been affected.
Emergency Flat Roof Repairs
Flat roofs can also develop sudden leaks, particularly where the existing covering has deteriorated or become damaged.
Whether a leaking flat roof can be repaired will depend on its condition and the extent of the problem. A localised defect may be repairable, while an older covering with widespread deterioration may be better suited to replacement.
